  Denomination means to give something a name. In this case various classes of Christians. But what is to be made of this verse?

  Sigmund Freud believed he was right. You challenge people like him and all they say is that you are suffering neurotic resistance and have not experienced the truth as they have.

  Was Sigmund Freud religious? Jung did not agree with him. They fell out but both identified as psychologists. L Ron Hubbard didn't like Freud's stuff. He came up with dianetics/Scientology.

  And what about Mesmer and his Animal Magnetism? Animal Magnetism and ideas about hysteria took over from exorcisms when the Catholic church lost its hold on the French after the Revolution.

  Watchtower isn't a religion it is a publishing house or media company. Even they say they are not a religion.

  As far as I understand, in USA, Christianity is not a religion. It is a way of life. I can't quite remember how it is defined but I think it is that fact that Jesus is the truth. Therefore truth cannot be a religion. And personally I don't think of Jesus as being 'religious'. I used to ask people on the min if they thought Jesus was religious. Generally people answered 'no'. In fact I don't remember anyone saying 'yes.'

  Key point about WT is that the published material is a double-cross, full of misleading info. Given that, I don't see how the corporation can be described as Christian. But this is true of other corporations that claim to be Christian.

  but do criticize it if you believe something is off-base.. why jws cannot deal with reality.

  No 8 There are no "Good" people in any other religion. If they were good they'd join Jehovah's Witnesses.

  WT is able to deflect criticism from itself and onto others by pointing to the genuine faults in others as if WT hasn't got those same faults too! Its a clever trick. You can't imagine why the man who robbed the bank (so to speak) pointed to all the pick pockets and called them thieves.

  On the subject of needing to think things through yourself - yes it is vital. And if you look at how Jesus taught, he made his disciples ask questions. The Greek word for disciple is mathete. It is where we get out word 'maths' from. It means working things out. Passing info through your own mind.

  Certain parts of the Bible require considerable thought, like a treasure hunt. That is the very opposite of brain washing. You have to be prepared to do the searching and working out yourself, not depend on someone else to do it for you.

  Hi Vintage - take a look at Jan 1 WT 1911 p 1-4.

  Also I note the cover says The Watch Tower, Herald of Christ's Presence, not Zion's Watchtower, so I got that bit wrong. All the same you can see C T Russell praising J P Morgan's ecumenical movement and linking it to Zionism.

  Exactly what the relationship was between J P Morgan and C T Russell was I don't know. But he has subtitled that section as Morgan's Church Federation and says it was foretold in scripture and that he (C T Russell) has been pointing it out for 30 years.

  Vintage I think Watchtower are still doing the Dawn message. Always looking to a New Age - its just around the corner.

  Also when they removed C T Russell's pyramid, the Knights Templar cross and crown went with it. I understand the Knights Templars to be the bankers and J P Morgan backed Zion's Watchtower in order to federate all American Christian denominations following the American Civil War.

  What J P Morgan was wanting was that the various denominations would be willing to forsake some cherished Christian moral values and teachings in exchange for unity and no more bloodshed.
